Without hesitation, those who have crossed paths with Ali would agree that using the word “funny” to describe him is an understatement. From his over-the-top fashion to his thought provoking punch lines, Ali’s comedic approach is undeniably captivating. After discovering his calling, Ali sought ways to showcase his new found talent. During this time, he caught the attention of the owner of Jus’ Joking Comedy Café, in Houston, Texas. There, he emerged as a weekly featured stand-up comic. This opportunity allowed him to perfect his comedic storytelling skills, brand his name and catch the interest of some of the most talented comedians in the industry.
Since his days at Jus’ Joking, Ali has built an impressive resume in a short period of time. To date, Ali has toured and worked with some of the industry’s most notable talent, including D.L. Hughley, Katt Williams, J. Anthony Brown, Bruce Bruce and Mike Epps, among others. He has also been featured on BET’s Comic View (four consecutive seasons), The All-Star Comedy Jam with Rickey Smiley, Arnez J and Earthquake, Bill Bellamy’s Who’s Got Jokes? and D.L. Hughley’s “Unapologetic Tour.” Most recently, he appeared as a finalist on NBC Universal’s Stand Up for Diversity and was featured on the 2008 season finale of HBO’s Def Comedy Jam and BET’s One Mic Stand.
In addition to commanding attention on stages across the U.S., Ali has taken his talent abroad. He has performed at the Bloomsburg Theatre London Raw Show and the USO Tour in South Korea and Japan. Additionally, Ali has hosted and performed at several college campuses, participated in numerous celebrity events and has hosted his own radio show, “Tuesdays with Ali” on KBXX 97.9 The Box.
Some of Ali’s comedy mentors include, Richard Pryor, Eddie Murphy, Red Fox, Steve Martin, Martin Lawrence, Damon Wayans, Mike Epps, Corey Holcombe and Dominique.
Ali hopes to thrive in the industry and open doors for other comedians coming after him. Look for Ali to continue climbing the ladder of success determined not to stop until he is on top. He states, comedy has provided me with an opportunity to reach out to others and spread joy. When I make people laugh and smile, I’ve served my purpose.
